Birchwood Building, Leatherhead

For this substantial commercial property on Leatherhead Office Park, we were asked to find a solution that would reposition the property as a modern landmark building and highlight the benefits of the newly available flexible office space.  Our solution was simple, impactful and cost effective, and dealt with the key issues that the property presented; redesign the exterior entrance; refurbish the reception and little-used lobby; improve all common parts; and create a new brand for the property inspired by the new look and feel.

The curved flying roof and vertical features on the exterior of the building served as inspiration for the creation of a welcoming curved entrance into the property.  The double height reception and lobby were completely refurbished and redesigned to create valuable collaborative work areas and break-out spaces with an informal residential feel.

The informal residential feel was achieved by fitting a new open staircase with feature vertical balustrading, adding soft seating and furnishings in a warm pastel palette, creating a crisp new reception desk , installing a new drinks station and bar area, and  careful placement of new recessed and  contemporary light fittings.

Valuable space was recovered through the redesign of the layout of the WCs and lift lobbies allowing the addition of new disabled facilities, showers, a new nine-person eco-efficient lift, and new glass doors and corridor leading directly to the courtyard from the reception.

We redesigned the central courtyard garden adding decked areas, seating, lighting and new planting to entice future tenants of the building to make the most of this relaxing green space and the shade from the two silver birch trees.

The inspired synergy between our Branding team and our Architecture / Interiors teams created the complete Birchwood Building project.  The vertical feature balustrading was repeated throughout the branding and interiors; on the logo, window decals, flooring and all print and digital marketing material.  A clean lightweight typeface was selected for the logo and all collateral, with a unique design adaptation of the letter W.  Photography of the new exterior and interiors of Birchwood Building display the natural light flooding into the crisp and contemporary space.

Our fully interactive website, logo, brochure and marketing material both entice and educate potential tenants on the huge benefits of this courtyard building.
